"Muchachitas como tú" is a Mexican telenovela created and produced by Emilio Larrosa for Televisa. It's a remake of a 1991 Mexican telenovela 'Muchachitas' and it aired from April 23 to November 9, 2007. The main stars are Ariadne Díaz, Begoña Narváez, Gabriela Carrillo and Gloria Sierra.
Synopsis[]
Isabel, Elena, Mónica and Leticia are four young women from very different worlds but with similar paths.
Monica is the typical rich girl who discovers that whoever claimed to be her father is not really her biological one and sees her whole world crumble. Isabel is a middle-class provincial girl who lives with her mother and father, dreams of being a dancer but sees all her dreams collapse when her mother unexpectedly dies of respiratory arrest.
Elena is a poor girl but with a big heart and she dreams of being an actress. She lives with her mother who is a good woman but who lives in a fear of her husband Pepe, Elena's father, who is an alcoholic and an aggressive man. And finally, Leticia is an extremely good girl but in the background of her good feelings and dreams of being a singer and shine on a stage, her family is poor (although not as much as Elena's) and she always rejects them and even changes her surname to make it look like she comes from a wealthy family. Days pass until the destinies of these girls cross paths and a friendship arises with some inseparable stumbling blocks.
Trivia[]
- Producer Emilio Larrosa along with his writing team wrote a special character for actress and singer Laura León. Laura appeared on the original series in which she played Esther. This time, her role was a guardian of the four 'muchachitas'.
- The show's original 'Muchachitas', actresses Kate del Castillo (who played Leticia in the 1991 version) and Cecilia Tijerina (who played Mónica) made special appearances as themselves.
- Both Camila Sodi and Belinda were offered the main protagonist roles. When they both declined the offer, Emilio Larrosa, the telenovela's producer, decided to launch new actresses in the starring roles.
- Larrosa was not very fond of making this remake, but confirmed that Televisa executives gave him the direct order to make it, hoping it would create a ratings surge after the debacle ratings left by the show's predecessor 'Amar sin límites'. That however did not happen. As her predecessor, 'Muchachitas' was also a ratings failure.
- Roberto Palazuelos and Jorge Salinas were in consideration for the main antagonist role, which ultimately went to Fabián Robles.
- Miguel Ángel Biaggio, who played Rodrigo and Gloria Sierra, who played Mónica started dating during the show's run. Years later, they've got married and had three daughters. As of 2018, they are still together.
