"Novo mundo" is a Brazilian telenovela written by Thereza Falcão and Alessandro Marson for Rede Globo. It's an original story and it started airing on March 22, 2017 The main stars are Isabelle Drummond and Chay Suede.
Synopsis
In the year 1817, Anna Millman is an Englishwoman who teaches Portuguese and she gets involved with the Portuguese-Brazilian theatre actor Joaquim Martinho. The two meet in Europe, but come back to Brazil because of the union of the future Empress of Brazil with Dom Pedro. Their destinies intersect when they are aboard the ship that brings the princess Maria Leopoldina of Austria to Brazil, since she is bound to marry with Dom Pedro.
Despite the love they have for each other, they suffer from the threats of Thomas Johnson, an English officer who wants to have Anna for, and Elvira, a decadent Portuguese actress who forged a marriage with Joaquim.
Trivia
- Bianca Bin was cast for the role of Domitila, however she was transferred to the cast of Walcyr Carrasco's new telenovela. Agatha Moreira was then cast in the role.
- Marieta Severo and Marco Nanini were considered for the roles of Duchess Carlota Joaquina and Dom João, but both were replaced with Giulia Gam and Léo Jaime. Gam abandoned the project citing health problems and was replaced with actress Débora Olivieri.
- Actress Yanna Lavigne was confirmed in the role of Jacira. However, due to her pregnancy, she decided to leave the show before the start of the production and her role had to be recast. Giullia Buscacio took over the role.
- Actress Márcia Cabrita was originally reserved and confirmed in the role of Germana. Due to her health problems, she abandoned the project and she was replaced with Vivianne Pasmanter.
